MUSIC+: Rory O'Hearn

Monday · October 29th · 2012

Q. First off, tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a singer/songwriter from Windsor, Ontario. I began making music 8 years ago when I was attending the University of Guelph. I drew from my childhood experiences, when I learned guitar, piano, and sang in elementary school choir.

Q. How would you classify your music?

Mostly soulful acoustic ballads. But I touch on a few different genres, including r&b, reggae, and a little classic rock. Think Jack Johnson, Bruno Mars and Bob Dylan all rolled into one.

Q. What made you get involved with One fire Movement?

I met Tony a year and a half ago, at NXNE. It was my first time performing at the festival, and he heard one of my songs. We got to talking and found out we had a lot in common. That’s when he told me about One Fire Movement and his vision for art, music, and philanthropy. We have been great friends ever since, and we have written, recorded and produced several songs together. He is a great songwriter, and an incredibly warm, humble, generous guy.

Q. Do you think your music or your style of music, embodies or reflects One Fire Movement? In what way?

I think my music in many ways aligns with the principles of One Fire-in the sense that it promotes messages of peace, love and unity and comes from a very spiritual place.

Q. You’ll be preforming Thursday (Tomorrow Night), what can fans and guest expect to hear?

I’ll be performing 4 or 5 original songs. One or two will be a bit slower, and are meant to take the listener on a bit of an emotional roller-coaster, while the other two are going to uplift and raise the energy of the room, and the fifth, I haven’t really decided yet. It’s going to be a surprise.

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

I currently have my first ever self-produced album available in hard-copy at my shows, and will be available for purchase or download online. I have plans to have a new website soon, and will be working on my first studio album in 2013. Expect to see some hot new releases! For now, you can find me on Facebook, youtube or my current website- www.roryohearn.ca (new one will be finished soon).
